I have recently began my Ovate studies with the Order of Bards,Ovates & Druids. So far this has been very symbolic and powerful for me. A few of the things this grade deals with are divination and herbs. In terms of divination I have really been doing in depth research on global events and what we can expect. I’ve been posting information on Pagan Space.

What I’ve determined is that the powers that were are desperately trying to crash the world’s economy. A global food and energy crisis seems inevitable at this point. The globalists continue to believe they can pull it off and create a new financial system that will be digital and enslave humanity. The reality is that the food and energy crisis has forced individual nations to take care of their own populations and become more nationalistic.

China, Russia and the other BRICS nations are in the process of creating a new global monetary system that is based upon a gold standard and will use multi-national currencies. This system is not compatible with the fractional reserve system used in the west and we are finding ourselves in a global financial war of attrition. The Petrodollar and Euro are doomed . . . but it may take awhile. . . the proof of this is only to consider how the ruble remains strong against all the sanctions the west is throwing at it.

As I enter my study of herbs I remain at a disadvantage because I live in a small apartment building with no room to grow herbs or food. But I decided to research which herbs would be good for my two main health concerns, high blood pressure and circulatory issues. I ended up going to the local natural foods store and buying some powdered Cayenne, Cinnamon, and Tumeric. Not being an expert on such things I’ve decided to simply put a pinch of each powder on my meals as a seasoning. I also got some Tumeric and Ginger tea . . .

As my studies continue I may decide to pick up even more herbs as I gain an understanding of what they might be used for and how to use them. Even if I can’t grow them I can have some of them around if I have a use for them.

I welcome any comments on herbs and how to use them properly. I am an absolute beginner at this and hardly know where to start.

In the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle the final entry of 473 AD mentions Hengist as having taken “immense booty” and the Britons as having “fled from them like fire”. To me this once in a lifetime “Immense booty” or treasure must have been the sacred treasures of the great Druid Temple at Stonehenge.

Suddenly it seemed there were no more Druids to be found in Britain, only Ovates and Bards. During this same time period St. Patrick in Ireland burned over 300 sacred manuscripts of the Druids. This was effectively the death blow of the Druid religion.

As it says in the Gododin “Morien [a title of the God and thus his priest Eidol, is a Welsh word meaning born of the sea] defended the blessed sanctuary- the basis, and chief place of distribution of the source of energy, of the most powerful, and the most ancient. – She is transpierced!”

The magickal power of the Druids was broken! The Saxons and Christianity were both the victors even though the Saxons were not Christians.

The remaining Britons were outraged and regrouped electing new leaders. A new High King of Britain was elected named Ambrosius. The author Edward Davies suggests that Ambrosius and Eidol, the Earl of Gloucester were one and the same and the he was the true King Arthur of legend, but I doubt it.

Call me a skeptic, but if Eidol was really descended from the Sarmatian Roman mercenaries as I believe, he would be considered a foreigner or of foreign lineage and not accepted by the other clan chiefs as their supreme leader. History says that Eidol fought alongside Ambrosius taking Hengis prisoner and then beheading him. A few years later he too was poisoned.

In the tradition of the Celts and Druids to make fantastical stories, I believe they made Eidol the immortal King Arthur, the knights of the round table were those champions wearing purple robes that were unarmed and slaughtered at the feast of the long knives during the sacred Beltaine celebration at the great circular temple or round table of Stonehenge! Part of the missing temple treasure was the Holy Grail, the most sacred object of the Druid religion. They believed that King Arthur would one day return and that the Holy Grail would be found.

This is the beginning of the mysteries of the Holy Grail!

There was only one entrance to the Stonehenge temple and that was through the avenue that went through the permanent community that lived there. The living quarters of the Bards were at the outermost section of this small town. A broad avenue almost 2 miles long led to the river and another avenue connected it to the curcus where Vortigern and Hengis were to have their meeting. According to the Gododin this meeting took place in a temporary building or enclosure that had been built for that purpose.

When you consider the 360 Briton nobles that were to meet with 360 Saxons, the staff of the entire temple complex plus Druid visitors and the general population that were there for the massive celebration I’m pretty certain that several thousand people were crowded around the great temple living in tents and camping out.

On Monday they celebrated the festival of May praising the holy ones in the presence of the purifying fire, which was made to ascend on high. On Tuesday they wore their dark garments. On Wednesday they purified themselves. On Thursday they duly performed their sacred rites. On Friday the Briton nobles were conducted around the circle. On Saturday there was a huge celebration, but without the customary circle dance. On Sunday the Saxon nobles were conducted around the circle. On Monday there was a deluge of gore up to the waist.

The Bards were regarded as the heralds of peace. The Chief Bard was the first to be ruthlessly killed at the assembly of the nobles on the curcus.

After it was all over only one of the Briton nobles survived, Eidol.

Here is how it went down:

They agreed to meet at dawn on the curcus.

Hengis, wearing a wreath and amber stones around his temples in the presence of the Maid [Goddess or High Priestess] offered mead for all to drink and celebrate. He did not wish to fight but if it must be he would fight to the death and show no mercy. Vortgern responded by saying they will all drink wine mixed with mead. This feasting went on into the night and by the light of torches. Everyone is thoroughly drunk. Vortigern prepares to give a final toast to Hengis so that he can secretly make his escape. But Hengis betrays him as well and suddenly kills the chief Bard who is entertaining them thus giving the signal for his men to attack. The enclosure erupts into chaos. Each Saxon plunges his blade into his Briton companion sitting next to him. Then the Champions dressed in purple robes are singled out to make certain they are killed. Vortigern is taken prisoner.

They prepared to rush the temple and take its massive treasure. Eidol, Knight of the Circle, sounded the alarm and the Bards drew their swords in defense of the temple. He started a mighty fire in the avenue blocking the way so the intruders cannot enter the temple. Then he reached the storage area where the arms have been kept and taking his lance plunged into the battle killing over seventy drunken Saxons.

Meanwhile those who had not been invited to the meeting notice what is going on and join the battle. Tudvwich, the noble whose lands had been taken by Vortigern and given to Hengis, made great account of himself before he perished. The intruders were not able to enter the temple and Hengis was forced to flee with his men after slaughtering the Bards.

Hengis came back immediately with his massive troops that were waiting by the river and the massacre began in truth. Of all the Britons there only Eidol, the author of the Godidin, and Vortigern survived. The temple was plundered and its treasures were lost. All the Druids, Ovates and Bards were slaughtered and the most sacred place of the Druid religion was destroyed forever. Both the most important nobles of Britain and the most important religious leaders died in the massacre.

The Gododin is thought to be an ancient song that is so fragmented that it has baffled many that have tried to translate it. As a translator of difficult text myself I have a deep appreciation and insight into the labor involved in such a task. Edward Davies spent an enormous amount of time and energy in translating both the Gododin and other Druid songs that told the story of the Feast of the Long Knives. This was not an easy task because the true names of individuals and place locations is not openly given. This is most probably due to the fact that the author of the Gododin was a Saxon prisoner when he wrote most of it. He had to be very careful what he said and how he said it. The author of this manuscript is supposedly the Druid Aneirin who witnessed and survived the massacre.

Edward Davies determined that the Gododin was not one single song but a compilation of many short songs. He compared all known translations and made a vocabulary list of all difficult words and researched them. When he discovered that the events of the massacre described in the Gododin happened at Stonehenge he combed through the available sources to find out more to give context to the verses. Then he gave his translation along with notes that helped the reader understand the context of the full story. Today we know even more and I’ve tried to retell this story giving my own notes as appropriate.

This story sings of the death blow of the Druid religion that took place at Stonehenge in 472 CE. May it sent shivers down your spine as it has sent down mine and may we always remember!

The Britain’s were strongly beset on all sides by the Picts, Scotts and Saxons. The Chieftains of the Clans elected Vortigern as High King of all Britain. When Hengist, the Saxon, and his brother Horsa arrived with their armies Vortigern sought peaceful negotiations. As sacred custom each side would talk before beginning open hostilities. Hengist and his brother agreed to help Vortigern fight the Picts and Scots in exchange for permission to live with their people on the small island of Thanet.

Hengist persuaded Vortigern that he needed more Saxons to help fight and Hengist was authorized to send back to his homeland for more Saxons. As more Saxons came they included Hengist’s beautiful daughter Rowena. Vortigern asked to marry Rowen and Hengist agreed on condition that he be made a noble and given some land to rule. Vortigern replied that he couldn’t make Hengist a noble but he could give him the kingdom of Kent and it was agreed without consulting the current owner of the kingdom of Kent.

The Saxons were strong warriors and easily defeated Vortigern’s enemies. But more and more Saxons continued to come to Britain and the Britons became alarmed and told Vortigern that the Saxons had to go back home because they were becoming more numerous than the Britions! Because of his love for Rowena Vortigern refused to do this and in anger the Chieftains elected Vortimer, Vortigern’s son, as the new High King of Britain because he vowed to drive the Saxons out of Britain.

Vortimer and his champion warriors succeeded in driving the Saxons back to their island. But soon after that Vortimer was poisoned by Rowena who had put a fatal poison in his wine. Vortigern was reelected as High King of Britain against the complaints of the champions and loyal followers of Vortimer who had driven the Saxons out of Britain. Hengist returned with an army of 300,000 men.

Vortigern met Hengist under a flag of truce and Hengist stated his fight was with Vortimer and not Vortigern, pretending that he didn’t know of the death of Vortimer at his daughter’s hand. According to sacred custom Hengist suggested they meet to talk about it at the great feast of Beltaine that would take place at Stonehenge on the 1st of May. Both would bring their nobles and greatest warriors and both would come unarmed and in peace. Both agreed to bring 360 of their finest warriors and leaders to discuss what to do.

But secretly Vortigern colluded with Hengist to betray his own people. Hengist would secretly bring weapons to the feast and kill the loyal champions of the dead Vortimer that were giving Vortigern so much trouble. These champions and heroes were to wear purple robes so they could be more easily identified. The other nobles would be ransomed back by their families and Vortigern and Hengist would divide the spoils. This was the unholy plan that was agreed upon.

Stonehenge was not just the circle of standing stones that we see today. It was a fortified enclosure of wooden walls and an entire community lived inside it. While the temple itself was open to the sky the living quarters were not. Within this community lived Bards, Ovates and Druids and this Beltaine celebration was the most important observance of the entire year! The Druids, Ovates and Bards came from all over to celebrate this most holy festival. In addition the local population joined the festivities as well. In all there were several thousand people that would be at this festival which would take place during several days.

The rest of Hengist’s army of 300,000 would remain near the river Avon. The meeting itself would take place on the curcus, a long raised area about a half mile from the temple itself. As an honor and perhaps to keep him away from the negotiations Eidol was nominated to be in charge of the feast keeping the entire company supplied with food and drink. He was the Knight of the Enclosure or President of the Circle. Apparently he was also a Druid High Priest.

This sets the stage for what was to follow. There was a long protected avenue leading to the temple that went through the living quarters of the Bards. The Bards were to be entertainers at the feast.

The Romans invaded Gaul in the 1st century CE and the Roman Emperors Tiberius and Claudius actively suppressed the Druid culture. By the 2nd century it had disappeared from Gaul. Supposedly the Druids fled to Britain and other places of refuge. By 400 CE the Samothrace mysteries of a warrior Goddess which had been founded by Amazon Sarmatian women were replaced by the Eleusinian mysteries of a Goddess of fertility and love. It is possible that they went to Britain with the Druids or later. There is no way to know for certain. What we can say is that the Samothrace mysteries were conducted in Gaul for almost a thousand years and suddenly they disappeared.

The Romans had several brushes with the Sarmatians, a horse riding nomadic people of the Pontic Steppe. These skirmishes were so troublesome that by the late 2nd and 3rd centuries Rome found it necessary to develop its own mounted warriors and even used some of the Sarmatian horsemen as mercenaries.

In 175 CE some 5,500 Sarmatian horsemen were posted in Britain where they served in the Roman army. More than a century later a unit of 500 were still stationed at what is now modern Ribchester near Lancaster. These horsemen flew a dragon standard as was customary for Sarmatian warriors who held the dragon symbol as sacred. Traces of these Sarmatians remain in Britain until 400CE. These Sarmatians also worshiped a sword that was plunged into an earthen mound possibly giving rise to the legend of King Arthur. [The Sarmatians 600 BC- AD 450 by R Brzezinski & M Mielczarek published 2002]

It is likely that the legendary Uther Pendragon was associated with this remaining remnant of highly trained Sarmatian horse warriors. I can’t find a direct link between Eidol, the Earl of Gloucester, and Uther Pendragon but one author spoke of Eidol as having a troublesome lineage that made him be considered a foreigner compared to the other nobility. I think it likely that he belonged to this lineage as well.

In 472 CE Hengist, the Saxon King of Kent, brought his army onto the British coast, after the death of Vortimer, they found that the inhabitants, under the command of Vortigern, were fully determined to oppose their landing. The Saxon chief Hengist made it clear to Vortigern that he had no intention of invading the country and that his fight was with Vortimer, son of Vortigern. Pretending as if he thought Vortimer was still alive.

Hengist suggested that they should both meet in May at Stonehenge on Salisbury plain with their highest officers and nobility and he also suggested that in a show of good faith everyone should come unarmed.

Eidol, the Earl of Gloucester, is described as High Priest, President of the Circle and Knight of the Inclosure. His job was to act as host distributing the liquor at the feast. He was probably the only one at the feast that was sober.

Meanwhile Hengist had his people secretly wear long knives in their sleeves and arranged the seating so that at each table friend and foe sat side by side alternating. At a given signal they were to take their long knives and kill the person sitting next to them sparing only King Vortigern. In the middle of the feasting when all were drunk the signal was given and 360 of Vortigern’s nobles and chieftains were savagely murdered.

King Vortigern was captured and surrendered his own properties as well as Norfolk and Sussex to Hengist and his army.

Eidol was the only one who survived and escaped after killing seventy men. He returned to the place of the massacre to bury his dead countrymen and women. He later helped capture Hengist and beheaded him.

We know him not as High Priest,  President of the Circle or Knight of the Inclosure, but as King Arthur, Knight of the Round Table which was the feast at Stonehenge where 360 unarmed people were treacherously murdered. I will be taking a more detailed look at this piece of treachery in my next post as it was chronicled in the Gododin and translated by Edward Davies.

Fire, Flames, Red, Hot, Burn, Orange, Black Fire

At some point I need to add footnotes to cite my resources as I am doing this mainly from memory but I think it is important to get the information out there! I’ve been doing some heavy research on both the Druids and the ancient horse riders of the Pontic Steppes. I think I have been able to document these ancient horse men and women as the ruling class of the ancient Celts. The Druid culture arose in support of this ruling class.

In a recent discussion the subject of the sacred fire of the Druids came up and this post is my response to that. It seems that some of these people relocated to Ireland around 3,000 BC as I’ve mentioned in previous posts. But some of these people remained in the Pontic Steppes and emerged as the Sarmatians around 700 BC.

The women of the ancient Sarmatian horse riders were warriors as well as the men and 20% of the graves were of women in battle armor. These people lived in wagons and had large herds of cattle and horses. At one point the Sarmatians were confused with the Scythians as they lived and occupied some of the same lands. According to ancient sources the Sarmatians pretty much lived on horseback and had red hair. The Greeks called these Sarmatian warrior women Amazons and it was believed that the island of Samothrace and its mysteries were founded by Amazons.

The sacred mysteries of Samothrace existed from 700 BC until 400 AD when they were replaced by the Eleusinian mysteries. We know very little about these mysteries except that they were Warrior Goddess oriented, involved a sacred drink that was a form of wine laced with narcotic mushrooms which produced a state similar to LSD intoxication. There was also a sacred eternal flame and sex orgies. This initiation was open to all people of all classes and of either gender.

So what was this eternal flame? Almost all the sacred mysteries had an eternal flame. What did that really mean? Interestingly enough it was some path working I had done for the Order Aurum Solis that provided the answer. The eternal flame was the vital life force of life itself that burned and purified all living things in an unending cycle of death and rebirth into new forms. Life itself is a flame that is eternal and has never gone out since the first cellular life reproduced the next generation!

And women were the keepers of this divine eternal flame which burned continuously in their sacred temples. And this sacred life force was sexuality and fertility! It was passion and death and rebirth! It was the fire of passion for living!

The survival pressures of the ancient world made people strong in the lower chakras but the higher ones were more difficult to open and that is what the Sacred Wine was for. The combination of sexual orgasm energies with the sacred wine opened up the higher centers in a sacred initiation that was conducted by priestesses.

The Druids had this sacred fire and they had priestesses that were keepers of the sacred flame who lived apart in secluded areas. It is certain that celebrations of the sacred flame involved the active participation of a High Priestess and these celebrations occurred throughout the Druid world. It is also certain that there was a special celebratory wine that was used for these special occasions.

The early Druids may have brought this practice with them when they moved to Ireland around 3,000 BC or they may have picked it up in Gaul when the Samothrace mysteries were first established because the Druid culture extended far into Gaul by 700 BC. This was the mystery of the Holy Grail! It was the most sacred mystery of the Druids and was a most sacred Goddess oriented mystery. At certain times of the year like Beltaine all were invited to partake of this holy communion and drink this sacred wine.

Knight, Armor, Helmet, Weapons, Sword, Knight Armor

Now that I’ve shown a probable and likely link between the red haired Pontic Steppe horsemen, haplogroup G, and the Yamnaya culture that merged this group with haplogroup I and how these people got to Ireland around 3,000 BC as the Tuatha de Danann with the pre-Druid culture it’s time to move on.

The Yamnaya culture was a blend of the agrarian culture and goddess worshiping farmers and herders and the nomadic horse riders and herders bonded together by the oath of “Hospitality”. The nomadic horse riders were the rulers and in exchange for tribute promised to defend the people that lived on their lands. This was a system of localized clans and chieftains that were fairly independent of each other.

As mentioned in my last post the druids were simply the social support system that developed to keep the nomadic horse people as chieftains and rulers. It was also one of the most advanced civilizations of the time comparable to the pre-Greek culture that it was related to as we shall see.

The bards were the media and entertainment section, the Ovates were the medical and healer section and the druids were the political, philosophical and religious section who educated and controlled the general population.

This entire Celtic and Druid culture gradually moved into Britain and then expanded into Gaul and set up its operational center at Stonehenge where it was destroyed in 472AD at the massacre of the Feast of Long Knives at Stonehenge during the annual Beltaine celebration where almost all of the Druids were killed as well as most of Britain’s nobility.

But before we can move on to the King Arthur legend and the Quest for the Holy Grail we need to return to the Pontic Steppes during the years 600 BC-450 AD and the emergence of a unique group of red haired nomadic warriors called the Sarmatians.

The Sarmatians were unique in several ways. They were red haired and their women were warriors. 20% of known burial sites contained women dressed in battle armor. The ancient Greeks wrote of these woman warriors as the Amazons. One of their favorite weapons was the lasso which they used to pull the enemy and drag them. The entire culture lived on horse back and skeletons of girls aged 13 and 14 have been found with bowed legs indicating they were riding horses that early. A woman was not allowed to marry until they had killed an enemy according to one ancient source.

They too worshiped the wind as the bringer of life and the sword as the taker of life. They also worshiped a warrior goddess and according to the ancient Greeks the island of Samothrace was founded by Amazon women and those sacred mysteries were open to all peoples of all classes. These sacred mysteries involved drinking a sacred halucinogenic beverage and lots of sex. This was the Holy Grail mystery. The sacred mysteries of Samothrace dominated the ancient world for almost a thousand years until they were replaced with those of Eleusis to which they were related.

These goddess related mysteries influenced both the Cretes, pre-Helenic Greece and the Phoenicians to develop warrior Goddess oriented religions such as Hekate and Astarte.

Near the end of the Sarmatain culture they were absorbed into the existing peoples but many became mercenaries for Rome. In 175 AD 8,000 horsemen were exiled by Marcus Aurelius and around 5,500 were posted to Britain where they served in the Roman army. More than a century later a small unit of 500 Sarmatian horsemen were still stationed at what is now Ribchester, near Lancaster. Traces of these Sarmatians remain until at least 400 AD.

They had a dragon standard and some historians believe that their worship of a sword plunged into the ground may have led to the King Arthur legends. These Sarmatians provided the pattern for the physical form of the western knight. The concept of “Hospitality” had already long been in place setting things up for the legend of King Arthur!

I was really looking to discover how people from the Pontic Steppe north of the Black Sea, red haired Haplogroup G, found their way to Ireland in 3,000-2,000BC.

The book is “The Horse, The Wheel and Language” by David W. Anthony and printed by Princeton University Press and the winner of the 2010 book award for the Society for American Archaeolgy. So it is very intensive. The first part of the book talks about reconstructing the Proto-Indo-European language and finding out where and how it originated.

It turns out that Proto-Indo-European was spoken by a Bronze age horse riding people that lived in wagon trains and roamed the Pontic Steppe with large herds of cattle. This was the Yamnaya culture of around 3,300 BC during the collapse of Old Europe.

These people believed in the God of the Sky, Mother Earth, a storm God/dess, the Wind and the Sword. The Wind was sacred because it brought life. The Sword was sacred because it took life. Because they believed in reincarnation they had no reason to believe in gods and goddesses. They did believe in the spirits of nature and decorated their armor with animals. Their women were warriors and fought alongside their men.

These nomads encountered yellow haired people from Haplogroup I who were farmers and herders that stayed in one place. These farmers and herders were Goddess worshipers, and they worshiped a Warrior Goddess similar to Astarte or Hekate. This Goddess of the Storm also gave safe passage through the storm, and this was the great Initiation of Samothrace which was founded by Amazons or Warrior women much later. The Goddess was responsible for the storms of life and safe passage through them. You needed to confront life heroically and defeat all obstacles. Die with honor!

The merging of these two cultures was the very first patron/client agreement where the nomads would provide protection to the farmers and the farmers would pay tribute to the nomads. This was the concept of “Hospitality” which became sacred to the Druids.

It is also the basis of the protection scheme that has been used ever since! The nomads became the Elite ruling class and the Druids kept them in place with their Bards (media, propaganda, entertainment); their Ovids (healers and drug companies) and their Philosophers/Magicians (priests, politicians and judges).

These concepts caught on and spread through the Usatovo culture into Gaul/France and Spain. This sowed the seeds for the Druid culture.

Meanwhile the Yamnaya culture who lived in the largest population centers of the entire world abruptly abandoned their homes without a trace. This happened around 3,000 BC. The entire Europe was in turmoil due to drastic climate change.

My guess is that they connected with the Minoans in Crete or the darker haired Neolithic Aegean Farmers/ Sea people who had arrived in France and Germany around 5,000 BC and had already arrived in Britain around 4,000 BC. The Yamnaya culture traveled by boat to Ireland taking their horses with them. They also brought the “Hospitality” concept and the true origins of the Druid Culture began there and in Britain where it became centered at Stonehenge. Horses were domesticated in Ireland well before 2,000 BC and ahead of the rest of Europe.

Ireland is the world’s most horse loving country! It has the finest horses in the world!

The “Hospitality” concept of the Druids was considered sacred but other cultures abused it until it became the protection racket that our world is based upon today!

Sword, King Arthur Sword, King Arthur, Brocéliande

I have finished my first read through of The Mythology and Rites of the British Druids by Edward Davies. I was absolutely stunned by the thought that Eidol, Earl of Gloucester, the lone survivor of the massacre of the long knives at Stonehenge could possibly be King Arthur, Knight of the Round Table. Intuitively I sensed that the Round Table meant the Beltaine Feast at Stonehenge where Vortigern and Hengist met for a truce meeting. I decided to look for independent verification of this in Wikipedia. Here is what I found:

The Story of the massacre of the long knives did take place in 472 AD. It did take place on Salisbury Plain and it did take place on Beltaine or May Day. It is mentioned in several historical chronicles which I will list. It is commonly thought to have occurred elsewhere.

In the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle the final entry of 473 AD mentions that Hengist is mentioned as having taken “immense booty” and the Britons as having “fled from them like fire”.

In the History of the Britons it records that three vessels of exiles from Germany arrived in Britain and they were commanded by Hengist and Horsa, two brothers. Vortigern was the King of Britain and in 447 AD received them as friends and gave the brothers the island of Thanet. Vortigern offered them more supplies if they would help him against his enemies. They were allowed to send for more of their countrymen and the messengers returned with sixteen ships and Hengist’s beautiful daughter. Vortigern fell in love with her and promised Hengist whatever he liked to be able to marry her. Hengist demanded Kent in exchange and without consulting the true owner Vortigern agreed.

As father-in-law Hengist demanded the right of being his advisor and suggested more Saxon troops were needed to fight off the Scots and Picts. 40 more ships came with troops and they battled the Picts with Hengist sending for even more reinforcements.

Meanwhile Vortimer had made an enemy of Germanus, Bishop of Auxerre, and had gone into hiding at the advice of his council. [Here Wikipedia doesn’t mention it, and it doesn’t seem recorded but Vortimer, son of Vortigern is elected King of Britain and his father forced to step down] Vortimer engages the Saxons and drives them back four times until the Saxons fled to their ships. After a short time Vortimer died and Hengist sent Vortigern an offer of peace. Vortigern, who had once more been elected King of Britain accepted and they agreed to meet on Beltaine at an appointed location where the massacre took place.

In Book 6 Geoffrey records much the same thing. Hengist stayed at Vortigern’s court and assisted him in battle against the Picts. The Saxons fought so bravely that the enemy was speedily put to flight. Hengist kept inviting over more ships and seeing this the Britons tried to get Vortigern to banish the Saxon’s but on account of his wife Vortigern refused. His subjects turned against him and took his son Vortimer as their king. Vortimer drove the Saxons back, but was later poisoned by Rowena, his mother-in-law. Vortigern returned to the throne and Hengist returned with an army of 300,000 men. Vortigern resolved to fight them. Rowena told her father this and he changed his plans and offered a truce that led to the feast of the long knives.

In Book 8 Merlin prophesied to Vortigern that the brothers Aurelius Ambrosius and Uther Pendragon would return to have their revenge and defeat the Saxons. Vortigern had earlier killed their brother and father. [This must have happened immediately after the Feast of the Long Knives and is the first mention of Merlin the Druid] They arrived the next day and after rallying the disbursed Britons Aurelius was proclaimed King. Eidol, Duke of Gloucester, told Aurelius that he greatly wished to meet Hengist in combat, and explained that he had been at the treachery of the long knives.

So the important facts of the story bear out historically. The Feast of the Long Knives actually took place as described. Eidol, Duke of Gloucester, [High Priest, President of the Circle, Knight of the Inclosure] was one of the three that survived.

Forensic evidence also proves that Stonehenge was a massive place of death. I read up on Stonehenge and that checks out as well. Something really bad happened at Stonehenge and it never recovered.

It is safe to say that Eidol, Duke of Gloucester, was the Knight of the Round Table and that the Round Table was the Feast at Stonehenge where the massacre of the Long Knives actually took place. The heroes or champions dressed in purple so that they could be identified and killed more easily were the celebrated Knights of the Round Table who were unarmed and perished in the massacre. Merlin the Druid is also said to prophesize to King Vortigern and be alive at this time. To me this is definitive proof that Eidol is the mythical King Arthur.

It can also be definitively concluded that this slaughter of 360 [460 British Barons and consuls in Book 6] British nobles and an unnamed number of Druids at Stonehenge during the largest and most sacred feast of the year broke the back of the Druid culture. The massive “booty” reported in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle was undoubtedly the treasure of the temple at Stonehenge that was taken.

The only difficulty with the historical proofs seems to be that the Bard Aneurin was not alive during this time and the Song of Gododin not attributed to the Feast of the Long Knives but some other battle.

However, it is only after this massacre at Stonehenge that the Druids seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth leaving only the Bards to tell their story in the Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Bird, Sword, Fantasy, King Arthur, Excalibur, Weapon

This is a continuation of clarification of yesterday’s post about King Arthur. Many historians think that King Arthur never existed, that he was mythical and they have never been able to find any historical traces of a round table.

Many scholars have tried to translate the Song of Gododin because it was very difficult and fragmented. Edward Davies translation took all existing translations into account before arriving at his conclusion that the massacre took place at Stonehenge during the Beltaine celebration of the Druids. His translation plainly indicates that this is so. Some scholars thought that Stonehenge was even erected as a monument to that massacre but it was not considered as the location of the massacre because the language in the poem was veiled. Aneurin had to be careful what he wrote because the Saxons were never driven out of Britain and the Druids were never able to recover from the disaster.

Aneurin writes about it some thirty years later in life. He was witness to what occurred and was taken prisoner as the Saxons overran the entire countryside. Apparently Aneurin as a Druid was involved in the festivities within the stone circle itself while the massacre of the nobles took place about 1/2 mile away. The crowd must have been enormous with only the chieftains and nobles alone of those massacred numbering 360. At the feast tables there must have been at least that many Saxons with the rest of both armies outside of that.

Vortimer, the dead son of King Vortigern, was elected King over his own father and a hero who drove the Saxons out of Britain with the help of other heroic warriors under his command. King Vortigern had married the daughter of Hengist and had previously given him the kingdom of Kent. He was in on the plot to get rid of these surviving heroes that had followed his son and they were all instructed to wear purple robes so they would be easier to kill. Hengist, however, double crossed him, captured him and forced him to not only hand over his lands but those of Norfolk and Sussex.

Apparently of all the Britains there only three survived. Vortigern who was taken hostage, Aneurin who was taken prisoner, and Eidol who managed to escape after killing seventy of the drunken Saxons. He tried to guard the temple area of Stonehenge as the Saxons stormed it killing the Bards who were also trying to defend it.

An unknown number of Druids must have been slaughtered as well. It was one of the two most sacred celebrations of the Druid year, Beltaine, and Stonehenge was the greatest of the Druid monuments and the center of its magickal power. This single activity is what broke the power of the Druids forever and legends had to appear about it. These legends took the form of the Arthurian legends and the Round Table was simply a reference to the feast at Stonehenge where all the heroes were killed and the heart of the Druid culture was destroyed.

Eidol was made King in place of Vortigern and returned to bury the dead and set up memorials. He later killed Hengist in hand to hand combat and beheaded him and once more defeated the Saxons but was not able to completely drive them out of Britain. A few years after that he was poisoned.

The author makes the claim that Eidol and Ambrosius are one and the same and that he went on to become King of Britain. To me it doesn’t matter if he was King of Britain as Ambrosius because he was certainly King in his own right as the successor to King Vortigern who fled to his castle and died when it was burned and destroyed.

I also have no doubt that he was not only the Earl of Gloucester, but also the legendary Knight of the Round Table, King Arthur! I also believe Aneurin fills the role of the legendary Merlin who was also there and lived to write about it after the power of the Druids had long been broken. I also suspect that the only reason they wrote about these things was because the power of the Druids had been broken and they wanted to immortalize these stories and these druidic teachings in any way that they could.

So in this manner Edward Davies was certainly correct in focusing on only the writings of the most ancient Bards who were probably the last living druids!
